C5 HDI 110 or 90 how can I tell?

Unread post by Allanxantia »

I am out looking for a C5 as they are cracking value now! I keep seeing them advertised as just HDI. I want a 110 but how can I tell quickly, is it the lack of intercooler like the xantia or is there more to it?

With the mark 1 model at least, the VIN has RHZ in it for a 110 and RHY for a 90. I think.

I'll check the chassis number, there one at a local auction tomorrow which looks good but they don't state output. I really want a 110. If it is a 90, how easy/expensive is it to chip it?

If it's the same as the Xantia, then a 110 will have 2 air pipes over the top of the engine, whereas a 90 will only have 1 pipe.

Shouldn't be too hard to chip, but that's a compromise really, as no intercooler, plus no variable turbo. Better off finding what you want in the first place! Cheap isn't always a bargain......!

I got mine "chipped" (actually a smart box on the common-rail bus, but the same as being chipped). 140bhp, always gently squeezed (i just want the extra torque and power when needed, i.e., overtaking and such).

I bought a tuning box off ebay for about £150 including postage. Although mine's a 110 already it really improved the pickup at low revs. Just plug and play.

I have a PSI powerbox on my C5 HDI 110. Makes it fabulous with about 135 horses now! I wouldn't go back!

The 110 bhp have tha larger tyres fitted (think they are 205s) that would be the first thing too look for

NO! The HDI 110 has the same 195 section tyres. The 205 tyres are on the 2.2 HDI!

Well, when I bought my Hdi 110 C5 it had alloy wheels fitted with 205 tyres-and this was factory fresh :D

That's a funny thing. My Xantia has 205s fitted but the label on the door pillar isn't for this size of tyre, something like 195s I think. I just assumed the last owner put wider ones on.

Well strangely enough I had a Xantia 110 Hdi before I had the C5. It ran steel wheels, but also had 205 tyres fitted to it from new.
