Xantia HDi - Oily substance under rear seats!

Post by eskimoigloo »

I'm getting a small build up of something oily under my back seats... I thought it was LHM leaking from under car and spraying up through something, but it isn't! Only thing I can think of is it's diesel vapour in this hot weather??? It doesn't smell or taste of anything, and is clear... almost like WD40? Any ideas anyone? It's just annoying as when i want to lay the back seats flat the bottom of the seats are oily, and then the rear seat belts get it on them as well.

Cheers, Chris

Is the fuel pump seal ok. Mine wasn't when i bought it, which caused a leak into the recess. The pump comes out from under the seat cushion.

If it doesn't smell or taste of anything and isn't green or mucky orange then it aint diesel or LHM.

I'm with Citronut on this one - are you sure you havent spilled something?

even putting a lighter to it won't work too well as diesel or lhm aren't too flammable

have you got kids?... and do they drink in the back?

I'd try cleaning it up then looking again a couple of days later, which might give a clue as to where it's coming from.

My passenger’s side carpet is still sticky and stained, but not wet, several years after some Cleopatra spilt a green potion.
Never worried about it, but it’s about time to think of cleaning it out, for in case an LHM or matrix leak may change the look and feel of it. :?

If your rear wash wipe isn't working and is leaking into the headlining I have found the washer fluid ends up under the back seats. There is a join in the pipe near the rear passenger grab handle on the drivers side. (Well that's what went wrong on mine anyway).
