Our trusty Xantia, the 1.8 16v has just passed its MOT.
We bought it with 41k on it & has now done 92k, being used everyday & as a load lugger.
Only thing it needed was 1 tyre & a drop link, not bad for a 10 year old motor. 8)
Realy pleased

Well done
On the topic of mots i have found the council run mots are the fairest, none of this that need doing this needs doing nonsense. They are 100% and don’t do repairs, thus the are impartial. My local one is £40 plus a full 7-day retest, came in useful this year! But never had a problem with them.

You guys pay £40 for an MOT check ?

And here was me grumbling when I got my last warrant of fitness (as it's called over here) and the price had crept up to $43. (£16.5) And we get free 28 day retests.
My Xantia flew through without any comments apart from the guy saying "sweet as"
It's the first car I've ever owned where there wasn't a warning about something or other at every test...
And I agree about going to a testing station who don't have any vested interest in offering repair services...
Regards,
Simon

It's so easy for British MOT stations to keep a steady flow of work going into their workshops. I much prefer the Spanish system. You take your car to the local ITV, it's inspected and if it doesn't pass, you take it to a garage for repair - or DIY.

The MOT station I use now says that they were breaking the law by allowing a free retest (or recheck of a failed item) and that the car needs to be logged back on to the DVLA for the standard alotted time again should it fail the first time round. I might have to look somewhere else if this is just some blag to squeeze an extra 40 notes out of me should it fail! Theyve gone down hill there, - charged me 10 quid
to repair a puncture in a tyre the other week. WHat is the world coming to eh?

In Queensland, MOT only when the car changes ownership, or is brought in from another MOT territory.
Moved here from Sydney, a young mechanic probably struggling for a living passed the car with 4 baldies, saying they were ‘marginal’.
I’m so corrupt and full of ‘arrangements’ that when in Sydney, the car always passed, sometimes without even getting looked at.
