Hello and help - C5 Hydraulic steering/suspention leak.

Post by Timaru »

Hi, my first post and it's a question, sorry - The power steering on my 2.2 estate (2003) has been noisy and
there have been traces of hydraulic fluid on the garage floor.

My local (very good) independent garage have just had a look at it and
traced the leak to the back of the engine bay but can't get to it
without dropping the sub frame to make the repair.

My question is - can this leak be suspension related as the manager
says as I thought the steering and the suspension on the C5 were
separate systems.

Can anybody shed any light on this and should I take it to a Citroen
dealer and pay double just to be sure?

Thanks in advance, Jon.

Can you please check where the fluid seems to come out? Could be the front suspension block leaking from the bleeder valve.
Also, have the fluid checked, as it is shared by the suspension (LDS only!)

Unlike what many people think, on C5 and C6s, the suspension fluid is shared with the PAS, while the brakes are regular servo assisted ones. Only on previous HP Citroëns were the 3 systems connected by the same master system.

I assume this car has HA3+ (with sport button) ? if this is the case the leak will more than likely be coming from the pipe loom that goes fron the o/s/f strut to the stiffness regulator, there are also power steering pipes in this loom.easiest way to do it is to remove the subframe.

Thanks all.

I guess the mechanic knows what he's talking about as he told me much the same as Wheeler has in his post.

He topped the reservoir up and told me to drive it normally until they can drop the sub frame on Thursday.
