2001 306 rain sensor problem

The rain sensor appears to have stopped working on my 306. When I put switch the wiper stalk to the auto position, the wipers do work, but with the same intermitent delay, irrespective of squirting water directly on the sensor.

When looking at the sensor through the windscreen, there is a orange light on the left hand side which I guess means the sensor has power....any ideas on what the problem could be?

does it work on slow speed ?and fast speed

Yes, slow and fast speed settings work fine. The only problem is that the auto setting just works like a standard intermittent wipe.

check where sensor fits the screen,if it defaults every 4.5 seconds this could be the problem,if screen is cracked across sensor the light prism bounce off the crack default is then 4.5 sec ,also check on sensor should be 2 gel pads in sensor,if had screen change these can stick on the old screen
