weird noise question

Unread post by deian »

Hi people, I have a weird noise question for you all. Here goes... (good luck to you all).

It's from the inside of the car and it sounds like some kind of vent opening or closing coming from the passenger front side somewhere, near the glovebox.

It happens randomly and sounds like a slight grinding induced by a stepper motor or something. I'm only guessing it's ventilation, but I can't see why it would happen randomly.

Anyone here know what I'm talking about? Thanks

Hmmm that used to happen on my old V6.... never found out what it was for sure... but assumed it was something to do with A/C control!!

if your car has climate control like mine the mixing of hot and cold air is controlled by a motorised flap this inturn is controlled by the blower controll module to test it move temp setting switch u should here motor adjusting

what else can it be yea, it is TOTALLY random though, over summer i've had the temprature on the coldest and fan on auto, with the air con off and fresh air yea so i don't see why this flap would need to be adjusting as the system would be blowing the coldest air it can get from the outside (over the min temp the system mearues), so no need to mix warm air from the matrix. but i don't doubt your recommendation, funny thing is though.... why on the passenger side only, i've never heard it on the driver side. any other ideas?

thanks

The servo motor that operates the flap is on the passengers side behind the glove box. (or at least it is on the XM)

That sounds like the same issue as 406s have, stripped gears behind the glovebox. I believe a lot of owners just disconnect them.
