Xantia LHM and sphere replacement question

Post by GB »

I am just about to order parts from GSF to replace LHM fluid and spheres on my 1996 Xantia SX Estate, 2.0 16V.

The parts that I am ordering are:
N43404 front return pipe x1
N45370A rear sphere x2
N45372 anti sink sphere x1
N45332 front sphere x2
N45304 accumulator sphere x1
N98104 Total LHM 1l x5
N98766 sphere removal tool x1

To do a fully comprehensive job, is there anything else that I need to order? GSF catalogue also lists N45322 XANTIA SPHERE-FRONT CENTRE - do I need this?

I am also thinking of replacing the tie rods, ball joints and drop links - do I need to use any specialist tools to replace them?

Cheers,

If the outer spheres need replacing, I would certainly replace the centre ones as well as these are responsible for the soft ride mode.

front return pipe?

maybe both centre spheres yea, maybe run some hydraflush before LHM to get clean pipes before putting brand spanking new spheres all round

not sure about gsf's sphere removal tool, but a chain wrench does the job fine for me

good luck

Newbie question: how many centre spheres are there? I've had the car for only two weeks and I am yet to properly look under the car.

So I need: 1 accumulator sphere, 1 anti-sink sphere, 2 front spheres, 2 rear spheres, plus 2 centre spheres? Right?

How many green spheres can you see in the engine bay - EXCLUDING the 2 obvious wheel spheres ?

surely sx = 6 spheres

only vsx (mark I) or exclusive (mark II) are 8 spheres.

the sphere order looks correct to me using the below source

Surely the SX will have the 4 corner spheres, a central accumulator sphere (and front and rear anti sink ones as it is a 97 car) BUT NO centre spheres as it's not a VSX!

Can't say I've ever bothered with the anti sink spheres anyway. Golly, only one at the back huh!?

There I was thinking there was another buried at the front although I've not gone looking for it!

Anders is right of course. I must read the posts properly. I must read the posts properly. I must.....

That will probably be the accumulator sphere, yes, change that as well.
