HDI xantia cat

Unread post by CitroenNuts »

So just had the oil and filter done at kwikfit (there useful for something) and they pointed that there is a leak from the front of the CAT on the exhaust.

Now they quoted a silly price of £264 which I now is way over as I can get it for far less from Euro parts and do it myself.
My question is I believe that I once read that a diesel doesn’t need a cat or at least not for the MOT so can a basic by-pass pipe be bought or is it best to get the cat?

Thanks

sorr forgot to say its a 1999 110bhp 2.0HDI xantia

No you'll be OK to by-pass it there are some posts about this if you do a search.

I had a hole/leak where you have yours, IF the exhuasts are the same (i have a 2.1td) and u have (hdi) i was quoted £164 for a cat (one piece down pipe including cat going into the middle box). I still said repair the hole, and they did for £30, so ask the exhaust people nicely to repair it. Shouldn't be a problem should it.

Good luck.

There is a hole about an 40mm long and about 4mm wide just looks like a weld has rusted then fallen off.

i'll see if I can get it welded as last time I tried to weld one i blew a bigger hole in it

Thanks for the help

get a local exhaust firm to make a straight through bit of `zorst to replace the cat,you dont need one for the mot and you hdi will thank you by giving better performance and better mpg.
