ABS Light on 2.1td SX Xantia

Well today the light came on and stayed on. Before now it randomly came on and went away as well. Now looking under teh car the passenger side abs sensor cable had been rubbing on the CV boot and obviously water had got into the exposed cabling and shorted it.

Now ive made a bodge of cabling to replace it and the light still hasnt gone out.

Will it have stored this fault code so no matter how many times shes re-started or how long she is left without being started the car will still see this fault??

Ideally i guess i need the part number or source for a new cable if possible though it looks like the sensor is part of it

and also somewhere in the northwest that will clear the fault code from the ECU, prefer liverpool, warrington, manchester areas via a specialist unless i really must see citroen

Any advice welcome on this as im stumped when it comes to ABS and im certainly not going to part with huge wads of cash like the fella in the other ABS post has done

Use a multimeter to confirm the chafed sensor is the culprit by taking a reading from the multiplug that plugs onto the fluidblock. The pins you need to check the sensor's resistance are:

Front left 15 & 30
Front right 1 & 6
Rear left 28 & 19
Rear right 29 & 31

The ballpark resistance is 1 - 1.5 accros the sensor

A decent multimeter will cost you around 10-15 from ebay/Halfords etc.

How old is your car? There's a change on the plug/computer and therefore the pin out on the newer models from around the facelift change.

I havea Swires 9083 multimeter already so that should be cool

Paris autos have said if there is a stored fault code then a mobile mechanic that ive not got the number of can come and reset it for about £25

and for the ride hieght to be reset its about £25 as well

happy days!

Where is the multiplug located that i need to check as im not sure where you mean by fluidblock... A pic would be superb if possible

The fault code is simply a diagnostic tool. I don't see that it needs to be reset once the fault has been cured. As I understand it they hold the last 50 faults or something and discard the earlier ones.

If you are reading the codes you may find a number there which makes it difficult to work out whats going on. It may then be useful to clear them to see what new ones are produced.

I expect someone will tell me I'm wrong but the answer may be enlightening.

Fault codes don't need to be cleared to put the light out - fix the problem (ALL of them

) and the light will go out....

However those faults will still be remembered by the computer, which may cause confusion later.

For example if you fix the front left sensor the computer will remember that fault, and if you then get a faulty rear right sensor and take it in to have the fault codes read it may report BOTH sensors as being faulty even though you fixed the front left one previously.

In that case you'd need to get them to reset the fault codes, drive the car for a week or so until the intermitant fault registers, and THEN get them to read the codes again.

So if you always do your own repairs dont worry about the fault codes but just bear in mind if you do get fault codes read later, the sensors you have repaired yourself (without reseting the fault codes) may be still listed in the fault codes...

Cheers guys

I repaired the cabling with some clip on cable repair job untill i can get a proper cable setup done with some soldering action

After a few mins of driving the light vanished into my journey as all is good now

Just need to get the aircon gas'd up and checked and also set the ride hieght which for £25 as i cant do it myself isnt too bad i guess

Id just like to say there is a nice V6 that seems to be going for cheapish money thats tempting me, on an R plate as well so i think i may buy it and get her converted to LPG somewhere decent and then sell the 2.1td on but still not sure yet...
