Newbie with annoying Xantia!! Please help!

Post by Suzanne »

Hi, I am new here and even though people have posted about there problems with Xanitias, I cant find a solution for my worries!!!
Alarm system, it just seems to go off randomly! It is flattening the battery. I have been advised that I can diconnect it at the box under the seat. Is this viable?
I have other problems, but this is the main one at the mo!
Please help!

Xantia alarms don't have the best of reputations.
We have discussed before about "random alarms" and quite often they are caused by over sensitive movement sensors inside the car, some Forum members suggested closing off the heater vents to stop a slight breeze setting the alarm off.
The Alarm ECU is also unreliable.
Found this info from last year:

You can also do a Search on Alarm Xantia as I think we have discussed these problem in the past.
As I am not a great expert on this subject, maybe JohnD or Dave Burns or one of our other Xantia folk can help you a bit more when they next pop by.

When my alarm was sounding off randomly it was eventually traced to a faulty rear door lock. After it was replaced (on warranty) the fault disappeared, but it needed to be traced through the fault code. Until you find the cause, use the alarm cutout switch. It's the left one of the pair behind the windscreen washer stalk. With the ignition on, press the switch for more than two seconds. Turn off the ignition, and lock the door. It will leave the headlights/trafficators flashing when the alarm works, but your neighbours will be appreciative!

Just to throw in another possible cause for the record. Mine goes off if the temperature drops below about -3 deg. Turning off the ultrasonic sensors stops it happening.
Never happens at home though, it's garaged

Mine used to go off when I left the Mobile in the car. OK when removed.

Fixed mine by changing the ultrasonic sensors, which means removing the door trims but is not a bad job. Parts cost £20 from cit dealer. Alex

Mine doesn't like short-wave radios in other cars, like taxi systems. One sunny afternoon it went off three times, each time when a particular lorry was driving past it.
The problem seems to have sorted itself now though. Maybe it's just that the radio transmitters have got less powerful and more subtle?

I never use the pressure-sensing option on the alarm on my XM due to too many flase alarms.
(The XM has "stealth security" anyway...)
