Avantage Envy

Post by FFX-DM »

This question covers a lot of ground, but recently I find that I am suffering from 'Avantage envy'. I miss my leccy windows that I used to have on the AX. I think the basic sunroof on my Leader 1.9D is very 'basic' indeed. I am not sure if they do anything useful, but I always thought that the foglights looked pretty
Okay, the question is, if I acquired an Avantage model, could I strip off the bits which I wanted and fit them to my car. Has anybody on the list done this? If I got hold of a donor ZX (eg. with frazzled engine) it would likely be an older model, so as mine is a P reg, do you think the bits would fit? I saw one recently for £125 and I thought to myself that that was a pretty good price for all the spare parts I would merrily rob from it before hauling it down the scrappy. Actually, that one had a decent TD in it, so I may have sold the remaining carcass. Hypothetical at this stage as I didn't buy it of course.
If anybody sees a 'Leader' on their scrapyard travels, feel free to extract the plastic name from the boot and contact me. Mine is missing an L so I am driving that little known model the 'eader'. I will grab one when I see one, but in the meantime, if anybody can lay their hand on one I will pay for it, plus postage. I wonder if I can improvise with the L from one of those magnetic sets that stick on the front of fridge doors?!!

Ahhhh, the ZX Leader. In "Leadership" terms a bit like Ian Duncan Smith in terms of specification.
Well, you could convert it to electric fromt windows I suppose using the electric window regulators from another ZX, and the internal door handles which have the switches in. You'd just have to hope that when Citroen built your car they put the wiring though to both front doors. If not its going to get complicated. If they were kind enough to provide the wiring, its a simple question of plugging the loom into the door switches, bolting in the regulators into the door shell, and plugging the multiplug onto the motors.Seem to remember that locating the door drop glass into the regulator is not that easy either.
Thats cheered you up then.

Wah! how dare you compare my car Ian Duncan-Zzzz! It's far more like...er... Anne Widdicombe!
I could always pay the pimple faced yoof in my local car audio centre £200 quid to do it from scratch. I may decide that getting the 2nd hand parts and then paying yon chappy to do the job to reduce the price a bit.
I can live without the leccy sunroof, don't much care about split rear seats... in 3 years I think I used the spit rear seats in my AX once. I am far more likely to flatten them down and fill the car up.
Actually, a cool feature of the AX was that it was a piece of... oops, I mean very easy to take the rear seats out altogether. Loadsa space. The ZX ones seem to be permanently attached. Any tips for easy removal?
Remote central locking would be nice. Price for that from PFY is £100. May be able to find it cheaper Ooop t'North this Christmas. hey does anybody know of a Cit garage which is cheap and in Newcastle and liable to be open between Christmas and New Year? (Wonder if I can get the car re-sprayed in black and white stripes while I'm at it?!).
Sorry, 1.5 days left at work and then it's HOLIDAY - the brain has already started winding down....
