XM 2.0 SEI Automatic - Lack of drive.

Post by RogerReed »

Symptoms: 1) Transmission in Drive.
2) Pulling away from rest - 1st. gear.
3) Sudden and instantaneous loss of drive (both forward
and reverse) - regardless of selector position.
4) Above was accompanied by a single metallic "bang".
Investigation: 1) No loss of transmission fluid.
2) All external components are insitu and undamaged.
3) With engine running there are no noises regardless
of position of selector lever.
Question: Does anyone have any ideas of the possible cause or causes
of the above, also the probable costs involved, given that
it is presumably an internal fault?

Roger,
My initial reaction was low fluid level as it is often a case that owners check the ATF with the engine switched off and hence the torque converter empty which means it appears to be full even though it's almost empty (presumably you know what I mean) <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> however, the metallic clunk makes me want to look at drive shafts; possibly one that has either dropped out or has snapped a CV or tri axle joint.
