Hi all. Time for my V6 to get a new cambelt (and i'm not doing this one). Didn't we have a published list of recommended garages on here somewhere???

Hi ACTIVE8, :D

All well here, thank you.
Hope all is well in your world too.
‘Cloogle’ Image will do very nicely, thank you.

There are many topics that I can find easily because I remember where to look for them, but I’ve had troubles of recently with the ‘search’ function.
Many times it says ‘No topics or posts met your search criteria’, as if the search was only going back a few weeks.
It would be interesting to know if there are similar findings, or if it’s me that’s getting it wrong. :?

To those of us blessed with a Xantia V6 :P I have a quote from Modern Citroen in Birmingham of £375.0 for a cambelt change which includes a new auxillary belt and idler pulley! How does that sound?

Pricey!

But I paid £420 for a 405 TD so you've got to go some yet.

Try Yorkies in Wednesbury, he said he could have done mine for £180.

You'll want to have the water pump and tensioner replaced also, cost me £800 recently to have the lot done. Esp the pump as it will spring a leak at some stage, the replacement is modified.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

This is the first change..... sure it needs a new pump and tensioner?

When were the pumps modified?? I believe mine was the last V6 imported into the country by Citroen UK.

Sorry to butt in - is the job that complex on a V6? Would you know how much it would be to have one done on a Xantia HDi?

Thanks.

Steve.

Not sure when the pumps were modified, mines a 1999 model and had the old type pump. I had the pump, tensioner, belt and the three rollers replaced, tensioner is also modified BTW. All were showing signs of wear but at 84,000 miles I suppose that's not surprising and the job was a bit overdue. As it's such a time consuming (hence expensive) job I figured that while it was apart I might as well get everything done in the hope that that part of the engine wouldn't need touching again.

A Citroen dealer also quoted me nearly £800 but that was without the three rollers, so I got a local chap to do it who's a bit of a specialist in performance cars. He did it for £800 with the rollers. It's a whole days labour, but even so the cost of parts was the major factor.

It is a bit of a complex job on the V6 as there are four camshafts to worry about and the engine has to be hoisted out at one end to gain access.

David Hiams (local Citroen Stealer) has just quoted me £450.0 !!!

Are you UK based??

Well I live in the south which is generally more pricey but when you consider the belt is £70, tensioner £106, rollers £53 each and pump £60 then that only leaves them about an hour to do the job at that price, is that quote for belt only?

As far as I know it was just a belt change.... he mentioned the belt price of £70.0 and I think 4.5 hrs labour... Hence my question about whether it was necessary to change water pump/rollers/tensioner etc on a first belt change!!!!!!!
