Laguna slow starter, and air bag light

Unread post by duncan_mcclymont »

Hi Everyone,

New Laguna owner (P reg 2.2 diesel) and have a couple of questions that I hope someone could assist me on... Thanks in advance.

Starter is turning the engine slowly - had a new battery and checked the battery terminals to no effect - any suggestions or is it a new starter motor (will let the garage do that!) It does start but it is not good on your nerves first thing in the morning!

Shortly after buying, the airbag light has started staying on, I appreciate that this is a danger point and will get it into a dealer soon but (I am sitting down) what are the likely outcomes, I am assuming a new airbag unit and a mortgage payment bill??
Would the airbag still be likely to deploy at all whilst this light is on?? Should I even be driving with this situation?

Many thanks to all for your assistance

hey mate,
just came home from work there, and my question is nearly exactly the same as yours. Dont know wether related or not, but after having my car valeted today, when i turned on the engine, a few hours later, i noticed that the drivers airbag light remained on, during my journey home.
after turning the engine off and then back on, it seemed to stay off, but after about 10 seconds, it came back on.

Is there anything else that could be connected to this light remaining on ?.

Is this a serious matter ?

and if not, and its a Garage repair, what the Charge likely to be ?

cheers

Tom

Sounds like your starter motor.

Air bag lights, may be the connectors located under the front seats, give connectors a waggle & see if your light goes out.

Right, firstly, sounds like starter, but I'd just wait till it doesn't start and get breakdown recovery out, then worry about spending hard earned ca$h.

Secondly, the good news, sounds to me like it's almost 100% the connectors under your seat, they corode and make a crappy connection, so if u can seperate the plugs and clean the connections, then coat in WD40 and put back together, if not, cut the wires a bit, put a spare bit of wire between with 2 connector blocks (usually the orange wire) so almost free to repair.

Thirdly and the great news is the airbag (for what use they are IMHO) is disabled when the light is on so there's absolutely NO DANGER of it going off, nor does it make the car dangerous to drive, but I'd fix it anyway, because if u get used to an orange light on the dash, u might miss a more important one when it appears.
