Xantia 1.9TD yr 1999 Rough Idle

Hi. Would appreciate any suggestions....have recently developed a rough idle... reminicent of a missfire on petrol mtrs... goes smooth as soon as I increase revs above idle, I havent done anything to cause air in the fuel system, in fact havent done anything except change oil and filter in the last month

Clues please

Any smoke? Does it start well? Is it loosing any water?

As above. Does it emit blue/white smoke on tickover? if so its probably down on compression on one cylinder. Another possibility is that the feed to one injector is leaking, that would manifest itself as a wet engine and strong diesel smell.

Is it a consistent missfire on the same cylinder, crack injector unions one at a time to find which one.

Thanks for the replys guys...

1. Starts fine
2. No smoke on startup
3. Irregular missfire sometimes only like a missed beat sometimes worse!
4. Not losing water (gasket replaced 10k ago)
