Does anyone know if Xantia 1 headlights will fit onto a Xantia 2 by any chance ?

Don't think there is any difference.

Citroen PR-net lists the 2 series headlamps with different part no's. The only parts with same part no's are the parking light socket and bulb. Not even the headlamp bulb is the same.
That said - its likely that both types would fit either series when you get hands on for a direct comparison.

Strange thing is that PR-net lists the headlamp glasses available as spares for Mk1 (some £41 compared to some £150 complete headlamp unit). But this is not available as spares for Mk2 according to the list.

i may lok very stupid now

but having had M1 and M2 Xantias, I think the M2 have different shape headlamps, due to the different shape of the front of the bonnet..
