HDI tank pump, relay/pressure sensor ??

Post by joelataxi »

does anyone know where the relay or pressure sensor is for the fuel tank pump, i can get the pump to work by putting a live to the pump fuse, but it wont work off the ignition, any ideas?
cheers

It may be doing what its designed to! On Bosch petrol units the pump will only run when the starter is running or the engine turning. (air moving through manifold in this case). This is controlled by the engine management ECU.

i wish it was!
the hdi tank pump should run for about 10 seconds when the ignition is turned to position 2 or staright to start position.
The pump wont run off the igninition at all, so no fuel no start.
i can only get the engine to run with a live feed to the pump, so by what you say it may be the ecu...doh
i thought there may be a pressure sensor on the fuel line somewhere but i havn't come across one yet, there is a smaller brown electricery box in the ecu case, i've swapped this with a known working one, but still no joy.
(i swapped this as on the running hdi it gives a relay type click as the pump turns off)

the pressure sensor is in the fuel rail but it wont stop the LP fuel pump running.check for corroded wiring in the loom under the radiator, the brown double relay you replaced might be missing a feed.
