Best bargain ever?

Post by Allanxantia »

I have just changed my car and it is the best bargain ever so far. 1997P Xantia 1.9TDSX MOT till Mar 07 Tax end Sept pale met blue. Absolutely spotless with 122k miles and a full history. The seller said it needed new spheres and it was overheating.
Swapped the new spheres off my old car. And swapped the radiator caps over as the spring seal was away causing it to dribble out the overflow causing him to think it was overheating!

Now perfect I am delighted

£200

That takes a bit of beating, what other bargains have we had?

what they neglected to mention was the MOT til August and the FSH!

The engine's fine, the water leak IS the water pump and I've bought new one for 10quid on ebay, so guess what I'll be doing out in the sun tomorrow...

Crazy isn't it! These cars are being thrown away  The turbo goes VERY well; that's the problem, they're now Saxo/106 engine donars. If I was honest, I actually bought it to stop this being the case with this one!

The V6 isn't an auto per chance!? You don't want to go and do thaaaattt!!

Hi andrew

Um yes my baby. My 1992 Xm V6 is an Auto!. Im gonna do a FULL engine AND Box swap instead of splitting anything. And run the turbo for a few months and try and LPG it too!!! Then it can go.

Want to keep the V6 as it has cruise and air con. Turbo doesn't have cruise or Air con. Just 3 mnths tax and mot till Nov.

Good purchase! Nice MOT n TAX. You saw the potential that had everyone else running the other way...

mind it never really gets better than FREE!! I'm forever hearing stories about cars being given away to enthusiasts, to be saved from oblivion as a tin for cat food, but have seen it myself first hand with many I've accumulated. One guy really needed persuading to accept a decent bottle of plonk swap for his Cx GTi TURBO ffs...

cruise only available on autos [pah - washes out mouth with vinegar!!]

It's now written into statute that ZF boxes WILL give up at 120k miles. FACT!

Those that have more showing on their's either live in Norfolk, have glacial acceleration tendencies, or have bought one that's had a new box put in it already at £1000's expense by some other nutter!!

Ok, I'm picking one up in a few weeks time too and then on re-acquaintance will agree it's a nice place to be piloting the auto on cruise, but it'll end in tears and frustration just like before. No such worries with a manual box Xm and you don't have to throw it away when the clutch slips...

My best bargain was a Fiat 131 Supermirafiori. It had a blown diff so I gave the bloke a tv in exchange and fixed the diff for £60.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right
