Xsara 1.4 economy

Post by Allanxantia »

How would the real life economy of this compare to my Xantia 1.9D? Been offered a cheap one.

I get about the same 36-42, although the road tax will be cheaper than the 1.9d.
The 1.4 is a bit underpowered and has to be stretched to keep up with traffic. We got ours as a second car which will not cover many miles.

John what problems have you had with yours?

Howie

Where shall I start?
-broken exhaust manifold
-broken wire in door loom and now blipper key don't work (i aint paying stealer prices to get it re programmed)
-alternator light keeps appearing although there appears to be nothing wrong with it
-just replaced head gasket for no reason it seems as it turns out to be a resistor thing that screws in near the fan (spent nearly £300 for the sake of a £6 resistor grrrrr)
-its eaten 2 anti roll bar links on drivers side
-strut on drivers side
-lower ball joint on passenger side
-had lots of bother with air con etc etc

Can I ask what temp yours runs at? Mine seems to run at around 90 all the time! Is this normal?

Mine runs at 90 or there abouts as well so I would not be too bothered, at least you know the thermostat is working OK. The 1.4 is not the smoothest engine and to be honest I'd probably want something bigger if I used the vehicle for longer journeys.

So your car was overheating because the fan was not kicking in?
