Xsara 1.4 economy

How would the real-life economy of this compare with my 1.9D Xantia? Dead against petrol but with the price difference and a lighter smaller car. might be OK

My 1.6, 8 Valve VTR used to give me approx 35MPG all styles of driving.
The wifes got a C4 I've got a ZX TD SX!!!!
