Hi all, new to forum and pugs in general (volvo man.....old 480s with the renault block)
anyways....just picked up a nice 306 turbo diesel estate - 98, s reg.
few little niggles...things like wing mirrors need replacing, but mainly what i wanted to ask is what are the main things i need to do to make sure it keeps running ok....as in initial big jobs, not just things to keep it ticking over..
its got 71k on clock, and has just had the cam belt done at 70k....
ive heard some stories that they can be expensive to maintain, but i do most of the servicing on my other cars myself, so im pretty hadny. (iv got volvos remember....costs 20 quid to TALK to a dealer, let alone buy anything!)
thanks in advance
rob

Welcome to the fold!
Im sure you won't be dissapointed with your purchase,as you say the main thing is the timing belt has been done, only other thing ive heard is that the head gasket goes every 120 000 miles or so,but i wouldnt worry about that yet.
My 405 is at 186 000 at the moment and all i do is change the oil/filter/air filter every 6,000 miles, then fuel filter every 12,000 miles, this costs me the grand total of approx £26 from GSF so it really is cheap to maintain.
I suppose it won't hurt to keep an eye on suspension bushes and the like but that depends on how bothered you are.
The only major problem i have found with pugs is the rear beam(worn radius bearings etc)other than that i swear by my 405.
Good luck!

cheers matt.
i had noticed a bit of a front end shudder when braking from speed....just reading round the forum and it seem like this could be wishbone bushes....
(just like youve mentioned)
top stuff......thanks for the advice dude.....
once i get the standard stuff done, am going to think about increasing hp, maybe an atmos DV, boost gauge etc....but want to see how reliable just yet!
cheers
