Was in traffic yesterday and smoke started coming from the passenger seat, foul electric smoke Its a 3.0 V6 R reg Xantia Exclusive, it has electric seats, but not heated. Now the very front of the seat (where the back of the bottom leg are near when sitting on it was VERY warm.
Stopped the car, turned the power off, it stopped smoking. It did it again on the way back, after about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 mins of driving. I have resorted to pulling fuse F13 out to disable the chairs, as after a few minutes you can feel it getting warm.
Has anybody experienced this before? Any ideas before i have a closer look tommorrow.
Smoke from Xantias seats.

Seems like a motor is working against an endstop. Bit weird as they should have thermal fuses build in. Could also be a low-ohm path in a faulty motor acting as a heating element - just barely NOT burning the fuse.
In any case check the fuse is as rated by Citroen. Too heavy fuses are potiential fire hazards - as you know now

Not wishing to doubt you, but are you sure it doesn't have heated seats? AFAIK all Exclusives had them as standard.Quackers wrote:Its a 3.0 V6 R reg Xantia Exclusive, it has electric seats, but not heated.

It was only standard on Exclusive from 98 onwards. This ones 97. Also there is no button for the heated seats.Richard Gallagher wrote:Not wishing to doubt you, but are you sure it doesn't have heated seats? I would check the switches for the electric seats.AndersDK wrote:Seems like a motor is working against an endstop. Bit weird as they should have thermal fuses build in. Could also be a low-ohm path in a faulty motor acting as a heating element - just barely NOT burning the fuse.

These are prone to sticking & causing problems.
Never heard of a thermal fuse being built in to the electric seats.
Then again ive never heard of a thermal cutout being built in to the heated seats either!

If it has heated seats it will have two thumbwheels, in the center console near the gearstick.Quackers wrote:It was only standard on Exclusive from 98 onwards. This ones 97. I'm suspecting the button sticking, as when you start the engine the "pump up the seat" noise comes on straght away, as if the button is stuck on pump. Been at work all day + rain, not been able to play!PowerLee wrote:I would check the switches for the electric seats.AndersDK wrote:Seems like a motor is working against an endstop.
