Got called round to a friend who's R19 "stalled" in traffic and then wouldn't start. He got the villiage mechanic to look at it - so it then started OK, he went for a (short) drive and it stopped again. Now it won't start at all. The mechanic recommended a workshop in a nearby town with a SUN diagnostic machine.
The engine cranks at normal speed, no problem with battery, compression sound while cranking, cam-rem/camshaft intact, strong smell of petrol after a few minutes cranking.
Haven't checked any voltages yey, I didn't have a meter with me at the time.
Is this model known for such faults? What should one look at to start with?

Well, a quick check with a multimeter showed 12 Volts in, pulses from the flywheel sensor, but no spark from the HT output.
We picked up a new coilpack from a scrappy and fitted it - Hej presto! working again!
Thanks for the tip.
