xantia stereo options

Unread post by jgra1 »

Hi all..

usual sterring wheel button type questions..

I have a small dilemma..

My new car has a 6 disc changer and a standard ?blaupunkt? (or is it Clarion) Xantia M2 stereo. Is it possible to buy an off the shelf Blaupunkt or Clarion, which will still drive the CD changer, and still utilise steering wheel controls? ( I want one with a line in, and better sound quality) ?

I presume a sony head unit wont drive whatever changer is in back? but will - with the right lead - plug into my existing wiring and still be able to use steering controls?

thanks as always

Do a search on google, but I'm pretty sure you can get a lead that will let you use your OEM changer with an aftermarket head unit. Same goes with the controls :o)

all citroen/pug radios are Blaupunkt's or VDO's (same company) IIRC

Off the top of my head, Autoleads steering control adapters are only good for some Sony, Pioneer and Kenwood head units.

You could probably find an adapter lead for the changer if you buy one of the above. eBay would be the best starting point for that...

Why not ditch the changer and get an MP3 head unit? 10 albums on a single CD-R.

ahh ;)

i thought i would try and keep the changer there incase i carry anyone who insists on listen to their own music

but

I only ever drive anywhere now with 40GB mp3 player pluged in... you just cant beat 10,000 of your favourite songs on the move!! best invention ever!

I use an old 95 xantia stereo with a line in on, I can do this again in my new V6 but just wanted better sound quality, plus wheel controls back..

Seems a good SONY (with a 3.5mm line in) with an autolead set up is the best option. Just forget about cd player, i dont need it

I'm surprised about the sound quality.
Both our xants have greats sounds, good deep bass, the only real thing is the clarity isn't all that, but its certainly one of the best factory setups I've heared in a while.
Even my mother, the serial speaker blower uper, has not killed any of the xants speakers - yet.

I keep a stack of MP3's on my phone & with it plugged into the standard xant radio its very flat, there's o range to the sound, I know thats down to the compression on the files.

I've got a Mk2 Xantia. I fitted a Sony head unit and CD autochanger using an Autoleads adpater. This allowed full control of the entire set up, change from cd to radio, switch off/on, change track/disc station, mute, everything. Have since added another adapter (original adapter still in place) and ditched the autochanger so i can use an Ipod. The controls aren't as good over the Ipod, but its still functional, select Ipod/radio, skip tracks, but not albums.
