V6 Xantia
What are these monsters like to drive as I'm still trying to convince the wife that we need one. The spec of the Exclusive is impressive on its own.
What would be the best MPG that you would get on the motorway?
I'm slowly working my way through the Xantia range. The attraction of the lovely V6 burble is probably worth the extra cost of the fuel.
Regards

I just got a V6 Xantia last weekend. Only annoyance, only available in an Automatic. But the kickdown is good floor the thing and it kicks down a few gears and shifts like mad, press sportsmode and the V6 practically redlines before changing gear....
Motorway MPG expect it to be close to the Activas engine (2.0 Turbo CT), so around 30!
The leather electric seats and armrest is very nice, and its a fast car. Even with hydroactive it feels no where near as safe as the Activa (which is my other car... o which to drive tommorrow...)

The V6 should have better fuel economy and performance when fuelled with high octane fuel, as it has a knock sensor that dynamically adjusts the ignition timing to suit the fuel.
I have not however been able to detect any difference in economy (or performance) between 95 and 98 RON fuel.
My consumption (90% motorway and A road), always seems to be 28-30 MPG.

I remember following a Beemer down a German motorway at 130mph when I decided to overtake him I floored the throttle and it actually kicked down into 3rd and took off like a rocket... very impressed.Quackers wrote:I just got a V6 Xantia last weekend. The V6's are nothing like any other Xantia to drive, the power is effortless and seemingly endless. It can be a pleasure to ease round town or an unbelievably good motorway cruiser but if you press the sport button on the box and suspension it'll blast round your favourite A or B road like a hooligan!
Economy isnt as scary as some make out. On a motorway run at 70-80 i see a shade over 30mpg. My average though is 27-28mpg which is a combination of dual carriageway and town driving.
Oh and the noise is fabulous!!
I think this car really suits the auto-adaptive box.
Finally although you pay more for them i'd go for the phase 2 version everytime.

Thanks very much for the offer but I'm in the East Midlands. I like the idea of the V6 as from the outside the car is identical to any other Xantia and effortless per is aways a bonus!!!f00lzz wrote:Where do you reside....perhaps i could arrange a test drive!!

You'll have to bear mine in mind as i'm only in Derby.
If you want to come and have a look just to get the feel for the V6 then you're very welcome. Mines got the cream leather which i prefer but i guess thats a matter of opinion.

I am currently 'involved' with Toyota in Derby and am based 2mins from Castle Donington. Yes I prefer the lighter interior... the only ones i have ever seen were Australian Xantias I think the Crimson or Dark Blue with cream interior look stunning.Ian Fearn wrote:You'll have to bear mine in mind as i'm only in Derby.

I floored mine tonight on a straight strech of motorway with the sports button on, it was doing 120mph at a shade over 5500rpm before taking the top gear.deian wrote:130mph in third? i don't believe that sorry
So 130 in 3rd gear i can quite believe.
I have only had my V6 Xantia for 2 weeks now, and i love the noise off the V6 so much that driving it economically is very hard. I got 220 miles from £50 worth of petrol last week, which i believe is around about 18.8mpg. Although i did sometimes try and keep it economical.
As I am only 19 i am paying £1300 a year to insure my V6 Xantia, so unfortunately mine might be for sale in a few months time, but it is a dream to drive, so i have to decide, V6 Xantia for fun, or 306 HDi for sense.
Head says 306, Heart says both, its a toughie!
David.
Come on you guys, you're making me jealous
I will probably never even see a V6 Xantia let alone be able to own one...there are so few here in NZ and they cost twice as much as the 2 litre models...
Regards,
Simon
