Lost Dashboard Lights on Renault Laguna

Unread post by silvershadow21 »

Hi everybody,
i have lost my dashboard lights & the light that uluminates the heater buttons on my renault laguna 1.8ltr sport
year 2000. I have chk the fuse box under the steering wheel, and i seemed to have found the culprit, or i thought so
On the second row of fuse's, the first fuse , which is a *10* fuse, was blown. I replaced this thinking all would be ok, but as soon as i turned the ignition again, i heard a small noise, and after checking the fuse, it had blown again. The only thing i have did recently was to change the back drivers brake stop light which had went.
Any suggestions Please

thanks

Tom -

Check the bulb you replaced in the rear stop light. Chances are you have inserted a wrong type which now blows the fuse.
The reason is that a standard single filament bulb inserted in a double filament bulb holder - will try feed not only the tail lights - but also the brakes stop light simoultaneously. And thats more than the fuse will accept.

cheers, for that.
To be honest, when i went to the shop, i just handed over the bulb & replaced it, with the one i was given without checking. I will check it during my lunch hour today, and let you know.

Just a thought tho. I am positive the brake light is is still working after the bulb change. Would this not have blown the bulb aswell, if it was the wrong type ?

cheers

just an update,
could someone please tell me with regards to the bulbs , are both the bulbs in each light holder *Double filement type*,
I have just noticed that on the Lft hand set of bulbs, both theses are double filement, (brake/stop light & indicator) (both working ok) but on the right hand side, there is a single filement indicator bulb and a double filement stop light bulb.
Looking closely at the double filiment bulb in the indicator holder(left hand side), it looks like one of the wires has blown, but one is ok, so the indicator still works, but every time i replace the double filement on the right hand brake light, it blows the no 10 fuse, which is located, middle row, and is the first fuse.

Is there any other way of checking the problem without constantly blowing fuses
