My Rear Wiper

Post by user_3150 »

is reluctant to work and is getting more so. I am hoping in the next few weeks to get the boot card and plastic cover off to replace the locking solenoid (£8 from maplins). Anyway would it be a good idea to have a spare wiper motor ready to swap over or is there a common fault with them that can be fixed (dodgy earth maybe). It does seem to work if I open then slam shut the boot again and I can't see any damaged wires in the boot to car body grommet. Any ideas?

Exactly like Malcolm writes : I had a seized solid rear wiper axle on my BX TRD. Managed to get it apart for a good cleaning and lubing. Now a year after its still working fine.

Be careful when replacing the wiper assembly on refitting not to over tighten it as I had the rear window explode about a week after doing the same thing (granted £50 excess on insurance sorted it) but I did feel like a complete idiot

Thanks guys. I will give it a good clean out and lubing when the time comes. I will let you all know the outcome as soon as I can.

It'll be the relay that's mounted next to the wiper motor I'll bet.

It's a blue one that's common to BX's and 405's to name a few.

I concur with Bernie. Check for dry joint in relay. Thats what my problem was. My mate with X-ray vision spotted it - looked perfect to me. Blob of solder fixed it straight away.

Good luck

Alec,

The locking solenoid on my estate boot is sluggish. Can you give me the part number of the Maplin replacement please?

Come to think of it my old 205 gti had a dodgy relay as well thanks.
RichG as Bernie says the BX door solenoid also work's (the back door one I believe) but I have had no luck in getting one so I got the universal one from maplins on advice from someone on this forum (can't remember who sorry). The part No is YD79L called a 2 wire actuator. I also got a pack of red bullet connectors No JH3E to connect to the solenoid leads .

Thanks for the info Alec. I will wait with baited breath for you to do yours and see what the job is like and whether any additional mounting parts are needed.

I know it's not a straight swap as the mounting holes are in different places but it is only plastic that it fixes too. I wish I could find the original post (it may have been on the GSF forum before it closed though).
