Early Clio Bonnets

The T.V. programme Watchdog featured Renault on their programme.

They reported on a problem with the earlier Clio, where the bonnet comes open, although the thing is, if it's a particular problem, then it's strange as to why it has not appeared on this forum.

Although one might assume that maybe a forum member would keep their catch assembly properly lubricated, and ensure that they don't pull it too hard as its construction is cheap, and weak.

It would appear that the cars in the report might have had this item missed when they were in for a service.

Are there any other reports of Clios that have had this problem, that our international members are aware of ?

The actual bonnet catch that causes the problem is the plastic safety catch pull, and the rivet that holds it. They are very cheap, poorly made, and not really up to the job required of them.

So, I would be interested to hear, if any one has had any problems with them.

Well it seems that maybe, there are not that many owners that have been affected.
