C5 Steering Wheel

Post by JT »

Has anyone taken the steering wheel and airbag off a C5 yet.
Is it a difficult job.
Is the airbag a job for the dealer only?
I have a slight rocking in my steering wheel and wanted to check that the securing nut was tight.

I had that problem a couple of months ago.
Disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes. Turn the steering wheel at around 90 degrees from center and with a flat screw driver, try to release the springs recessed in 2 holes behing the wheel, one on the left, one on the right.
The centre portion of the steering wheel with the airbag module should pop off. Then get a big torx wrench (or is it a normal socket wrench?) to tighten it up.

Good luck!

Thanks Francisco.
You were spot on with your description. I had a go at it at the weekend but was unable to shift one of the springs.
However I can see how it works and it is only a matter of staying at it.
Thanks again.
