Pick your brains 405

Post by rayc »

My lad has a Peugeot 405 GRDT Saloon in white. 1993/4 model L plate.
taxed and mot'd
Approx 170,000 miles.

New clutch last month
Serviced engine last month
New Cam belt last month
Electric windows and sunroof.

Generally good condition apart from previous owner caught the bottom of both o/s doors so they are pushed in slightly below the trim.

As you have probably read. I have bought him a 406 1.9 LX TD which he will have in May.

I'm therefore going to put the 405 up for sale.

Any suggestions on what it's worth please?

Cheers

Ray

With full MoT, six months' tax, and in good condition? I'd give you £550 maximum if I really wanted it.

I doubt that.

Maybe £500 if it were an estate. As it's a saloon... well... not a lot to be honest.

I have a 405 TD estate with Aircon, and I doubt that's worth as much as £500.

Which is not an accurate reflection on the car. They're great... just not worth very much.

Hey F&F – I might just be flash with the cash!!
But then again, I bought my Xantia for £600 with a full MoT last November.
I do like the late 405 TDs though, if they've got the bigger front spoiler and fogs.
I personally think if you've looked after a car and there's lots of life left in it, you should try and give it to a relative, or sell to someone who will keep it alive with some DIY magic.
I bet a 406 is a tougher DIY proposition, and as for a 407 - forget it!

My dad had a j reg 405 1.9 GRi estate that was in good condition with
about 120000 on the clock, 6 months tax & MOT.
Had it in the paper for a few weeks at £350 and only got £250 for it in the end.
