Hi,
My 306 makes a noise (clonk) when a brake.
It only does it when moving (will not make the noise when pressing the brake pedal whilst stationary).
I have checked for play in the ball joints etc but cant find any, the brake calipers appear to be secure as well.
Does any one know if this is one of the many common problems and if so what could be the cause?
Any help appreciated as the noise is getting annoying!

I had the same problem on my old 306 and it turned out to be wishbone bushes. Replaced wishbone as pug306 says and problem solved!

Thanks for the replys
I'll jack it up this weekend and have a look.
The noise doesn't always happen when applying the brakes but does it when i'm comming off the brakes.
I can also feel it slightly through the brake pedal.

I should never have replied to this post - now my Xsara's at it
Yes, it's the wishbone bushes, the P bushes are split on both sides. No chance of just replacing them - they can't be bought separately, so I've had to fork out for two new arms at £41+VAT each.
Original Citroen arms cost over £70 each.
I'd have thought the wishbone arms would be the same as on the ZX and 306, but no. Even the Picasso has different arms. So that probably explains the cost.

Hello all,
I know it's been a while since I started this post but as the missis an myself had recently brought a house so the car has been on the back burner in favour of decorating
Anyway having now investigated as I also had a rattling exhaust that was getting anoying as well I can say that the clonk was being caused by the exhaust.
I replaced the gasket between the front pipe and manifold and fitted new springs at the joint and hey pressto, no rattly exhaust or clonk when breaking
Only problem was the front pipe which is also that CAT snapped a few days later, so out came the welder as I didn't want to shell out £155 for a new one.
