few C5 questions

1) I'm going to be moving a load of wine up to Yorkshire from Surrey and want to know the weight capacity of the C5 saloon - there will be about 500kg of wine! Is that too much?

2) when I press auto the aircon light always comes on - is that normal - i.e. why does the aircon come on when it's 10 outside and I want 18? Or does that just indicate that the aircon is active when needed?

3) does it have an athermic windscreen and is that why my tele peage thing doesn't work anymore?

4) anyone had any trouble getting the traffic master thing working?

Hi Al, in the owners manual it states the Max weight on the rear axle is from 900kg to 950kg depending on type of vehicle.
2 Yes the air con light does come on automatically but does not come on when it is below 3degrees, if that helps.
3 Yes the C5 has if the original windscreen is fitted.
4. Have you renewed your subscription?

I take it that you don’t have a hand book for your car.

Around the rear view mirror there should be an area of black dots, this part has no athermic coating and is intended for such things.

Load the wine as close to the front as possible; fold the rear seats to do so. I once loaded some 300kgs+ on ours, and the front got a bit on the light side, but no handling problems.

thanks for the replies, the traffic master thing is a bit of a mystery to me, I tried to renew it and the lot at trafficmaster said the subscription was up to date and that it appeared not to be working properly - next stop garage I guess.

I think that is definately too much for such a long trip.... I suggest that you stop off in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands on the way up and reduce your load at my house.... we would be only too pleased to look after it for you.

Auto is just the fancy climate control, It uses the aircon to lower the cabin temperature & also to de mist the windows so no worries there then.

On the weight side of things check on the VIN plate for the rear axle max weight, It should be on there.

Keep inside of that figure & all will be ok & legal

All the vehicle max weights are on that VIN plate

Front axle, rear axle, gross train weight etc.

just to clarify, the rear axle weight does not include the weight of the car on it anyway? I.e. the rear axle weight quoted (950kg) is the weight which I may add to the car?

No. The real axle weight is the maximum gross weight allowable on the axle. Add together the max axle weight on the front and the back and you have the maximum gross vehicle weight.

500KG should be fine though. That's only the equivalent of 3 lardy people on the back seat and a fair bit of luggage in the boot.
