Air bag electrics under seat Xantia Hdi

Post by Garysz »

I have both the side and main airbag lights on. I have read the posts and have tried unppluging, cleaning and then reassembling but to no avail.

Not keen on cutting the wires and soldering them all so can anyopne help me in identifying which coloured plugs / wires are the key ones? There appears to be a large block which goes no where and at least three other connectors orange, brown and white?

I think, though I could be wrong, that only the side airbags have wiring under the seat. Certainly when the wiring under there has been dislodged on my car only the side airbag warning light somes on - not the central one. Perhaps as you have both lights on the problem is elsewhere?

I have a feeling that the wiring to the seatbelt pretensioners runs under there and that they may be linked to the airbag warning system

our blue Xant flashes its airbag light then it stays on, I've taken it to be reset & it lasted the whole of 2 mins. On ours its the passengers side pretensioner connector is curroded I've just not had 5 mins to fix it.

Had a fiddle around under the passenger seat and both lights went out.

Then the main airbag light came on and is still flashing but the side airbag is not lit.

Conclusion: There is some wire under the seat which affects the main airbag: Right or Wrong? And if so does any one know what colour?

Driver & passenger airbag & the seat belt pretensioners work from one ECU.

The side airbags are controlled by another ECU.

2 different systems hence the different warning lights.

Some cars also have another warning light for the passeneger airbag to show when its switched off with the disarm switch.

A flashing airbag light could mean the rotary switch behind the steering wheel is faulty, It really needs the fault codes reading to be 100% sure.

If the light was stuck on all the time then I would say seatbelt pretensioners.

What ever you do DONT probe with a multimeter ANY of the SRS wires when they are conected to either an ECU or a pyrotechnic device, You WILL FIRE the SRS system if you do!

Unplug BOTH ends before checking the wires with the meter!

The later PSA cars use pretensioners mounted in the seat belt reel & not in the buckle like the earlier cars.

Also some of the plugs have a metal clip over the connector plug that will short the system to earth, shut it down & put the warning light on if the plug comes lose.
