Post by leerichmond2000 »

i have a ciztroen zx 1.9diesel dimension m reg,
i am thinking about converting it to a turbo diesel by takeing an engine from a m reg td volcano
could any on tell me if the wireing harnesses r the same?
if not can i add pieces to make it the same ?
i under stand i will have to change the front disks and calipers to vented ones,
could any one else tell me what problem i may face eg
wireing
ecu
air senses
anything that could help me

The wiring harnesses are the same as far as I am concerned provided that your car has a rev counter, and both cars either did, or did not have a keypad immobiliser. If one car has a keypad immobiliser and the other does not, there could be problems (the immobilisor acts on the diesel pump).
The swop would need the following parts from the ZX TD VOLCANE:
Radiator & all Hoses
Engine & Box inc Intercooler
Driveshafts
Calipers, discs etc.
Exhaust complete
Clutch cable.
Its also worth mentioning that the TD uses different front struts than the normally aspirated diesel.
If it was me doing the job I would simply unbolt the front subframe and top strut mounts from the TD Volcane (ensuring all cables, wires, water & brake hoses and exhaust are disconnected) leaving the front wheels on, roll it all out, and roll it under the ZX 19D and bolt it all up again. Then fit the TD rad and water hoses, and complete exhaust etc. Plus the TD clutch cable.
If its all worth the trouble of course. (doubtful)

These cars do not have an ECU.
The keypad immobilisor was fitted to ZX's 94>.It came in on M reg cars, this is why I asked the question. The stop solenoid on the immobiliser type pump is the same as those without the immobiliser, the only difference being that it is energised by a power transistor in the security electronics when the correct code is punched in.
You need to advise whether your car and the Volcane do have keypad immobilisor or not, then we (probably Dave Burns is the best man) will tell you how to get round the problem if it exists.

You will also need a TD glow relay to go with that lot, also don't forget you will have to notify your insurers, who will treat it as a modification and charge accordingly.
If you are going ahead with it, an engine with the immobiliser on the pump isn't a problem, you would just have to remove the pump from the engine so that you can remove the security cover and electronics from it, then go straight to the stop solenoid with the original wiring on your car.
Also be sure to get one with the Bosch injection pump fitted because it will easily outlast the Lucas/Rotodiesel pump.
What do you reckon all that lot is going to set you back.
