Xantia running like a tractor

Post by jpacoupe »

The car is a 1996 1.8 petrol xantia estate.
It went into the garage for an oil leak and new exaust, and now it runs like a dog. It starts ok, but when you accelerate off it really bogs down and starts spluttering, you need 1st gear to get up hills. The garage took the exhaust off again to see if it was blocked or something, made no difference. the garage are scratching their heads as nothing theyve done should effect how it runs, they tried new plugs and looked for fault codes on the ecu, no joy.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions of what to try next?

Surely its up to them to sort it out ?

Clearly the problem wasn't there before, so they must have inadvertantly disturbed something. Perhaps a hose come off the MAP sensor, or something like that...

Absolutely, I dumped it back on their forecourt this morning.
I just want to have some background knowledge of my own rather than just take their word for what ever they find.

Is the lambda sensor on the exhaust somewhere or is it up out of harms way on the manifold somewhere?

If it was on the exhaust (as some are on some cars, not sure about Xantias) it could have been knocked, unplugged or damaged while the work was being done on the exhaust.

Shane had similar trouble with his 2 litre when he changed the cambelt and knocked off a small hose somewhere. Suspect something similar has happened to yours. We can probably find the thread if the garage can't manage it
