Flat Xantia

Post by keefy21m »

Hi everyone, I have a 1996 Xantia 1.9d with 110,000 on the clock which I have had since last October. When I am doing say 55 mph on the motorway and put my foot down to go faster there is a flat spot and the car actually goes slower, however if I back off from this and press the pedal down slowly it gradually picks up speed and all is well, also happens between 60 and 70. What could be causing these flat spots? Also the fuel consumption is always only 38-40 mpg even if i drive it like a vicar, surely it should be more than this?, this is my 1st Xantia so not sure what to expect.
It is a bit lumpy on first start up with some blue smoke but uses no oil at all between oil changes but once warmed up goes ok, just the flat spots.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Keith

Could be a blocked fuel filter, those are typical symptoms.

Mmm agreed

The pump cannot get enough fuel through to satisfy the demand of the pump when your toe has gone flat to the flour...

How ever, when pressing down slowly, theres not as larger demand for a greater supply of fuel and can cope with it..

Check it out and replace filter first.

Air leak in the fuel?? Although that could cause worse starting problems.

Or a duff turbo?

I retract my previous statement!

Not much it can be really.....air and fuel filters aside....diesel pump timing perhaps if its 1 tooth out?

Or perhaps injectors need cleaning out?

Hi
If timing is 1 tooth out it will absolutly NOT run at all!!

Diesel timing has to be soo close to spot on to run!

Unlikley. If its over advanced it will knock, if its retarded it will be difficult to start, low power and very quiet.
