Is it usual for the xantia to bounce after going over pot holes and speed bumps :?

Sounds like you either have air in the system or some of your spheres are flat.

You can try clearing air from the system by moving the suspension to full height then down to it's lowest setting stopping at each notch between and back again about a dozen times.

You'll find lots of tips for checking for flat spheres if you do a search on this forum.

On the positive side it's a lot easier and cheaper to change a set of spheres on a hydro Citroen than to change the springs and dampers on a conventional setup.

Try 'bouncing' each corner of the car with the engine running, there should be at least 3" - 6" of up and down movement, probably more at the back. If a corner doesn't move, it needs a new sphere.

Mine got so bad that it would leave the road!!!! I had this problem and changed the front spheres. It cost about £50 from GSF and the difference was instantly noticable. The idea was to do the others later (as they are more difficult). If you think flat spheres is the cause then search this site as there is loads of info on how to change them SAFELY (do please follow the advice).
