accum.sphere and fuel consumption

am i right in thinking that a flat accumulator sphere can make fuel consumption higher because the hydraulic pump driven by the engine has to work harder?

Mmmm possibly, it will of course cause premature pump wear with over working, a good point to ask.. If theres a load on it, its a load on the crank/engine so yes I guess it could well do..

I think you'd find the effect on fuel consumption one way or the other would be miniscule. The pump is approximately 1.5HP under full load, and only runs intermitantly. Certainly far less than running the air-conditioning.
