C15D VAN STARTING PROBS

Post by desperate »

to start i must thank andyspares in particular Jon for helping me out on the steering knuckle joint, after fitting it it sailed thru the m.o.t
When I go to start from cold i wait for the light to go out (and the relay to click) crank the engine which runs healthily for 5-6 seconds then cuts out. to restart i have to depress the accelerator (yes i know im not meant to} slowly to the floor and it starts with no problem (apart from a small cloud of white smoke). It starts easily when warm and ticks over perfectly. Bearing in mind it stood unused for nearly 2 years not bad! I read back over the forum on diesel starting problems but none seem to fit. anyone any ideas? incidently the deisel fuel (nearly a full tank) was left in the van for that 2 years and topped up with new diesal could this be a potential problem. does deisel loose its oomph like petrol

The fuel tank should have been drained ideally, take a look at these links and you'll see why.
