ZX 1.9d Replacement Sump Help

Unread post by citroenbx »

Discovered an Oil leak on my 1992 1.9d ZX to coming from the smallest of fractures on the sump...I've heard of sumps wearing out but never had a car where this has happened

Off to the Breakers will any XUD sump suffice? Dont want to make a mistake have you seen all those bolts  Thanks in advance.

Any XUD car sump, plus any of the 1.6/1.9 petrols too.

Hi

Give those hocky stick oil seals a good look at while the sumps off

Have a good look around the main bearing cap directly behind the flywheel.

Those seals are easy to replace while the sumps off

Yes I've seen all those bolts that needs to come off

Note that there are in fact 2 main types of sumps around :
Earlier type with a slightly raised edge on the middle of the seal surface to help compress the good old style "paper" seal.
Recent type designed the opposite - i.e. sort of slightly hollow to hold a bit more sealant paste.

You can use either - if you're using correct sealing method.

At the same time do a major maintenance to the oil fume and filler hoses - as if the sump pressurises it will strain the seal.

Clean every thing well (incl. bolts) before refitting.
On re-assembly tighten the sump bolts evenly in cross pattern. Do not torque the bolts as they may rip the thread - or snap.
