SAXO WESTCOAST = loadz of trouble!

Post by Izzy »

I have a Citroen Saxo Westcoast and I have had nothing but trouble with it...
It keeps cutting out when I'm driving (especially when I stop at lights! V. embarrassing!)It also just loses power for no reason then suddenly bursts into life again.
It has really, really sqeaky breaks and keeps warping it's disks... I have taken it to two Citroen dealers and about 6 other garages and still no one can fix it! It has had two new sensors which did help a bit with the cutting out but it hasn't fixed the problem.
It has had a new front suspension and allsorts of work done on the front brakes but still nothing. All together now I've spent over £1000.00 getting it checked over and things done to it and it's still not much better.
Please help!!!! I'm totally stuck for idea's?!

Izzy,
Bit more info if you don't mind.
What miles has the car done? Have the routine services been done, including replacing fuel filter? Which sensors have been replaced?
The brakes: have new pads & rotors been fitted & do you know what kind were fitted? These things don't just warp; there has to be a reason.
Most if not all of that info should be on your invoices for work done.
As I'm on the opposite side of the World, I may not get back to you for a day or so but someone else may be able to help once armed with some of that info.
Don't be afraid of doing a long posting.......I do it all the time!!

Hi Alan,
Thanks for trying to help me! I realise I should have given more info.. sorry! The evil one has done 45,000 miles and it has had new pads, disks, wheel bearings etc more that once in the past year... As you can probably guess, I know nothing about cars! But I'm learning!!!
I will dig out my invoices tonight when I get home and mail you with more details...
Thanks again for taking time to help me,
Iz

The engine losing power and cutting out sounds familiar. There are known problems with the ignition coils, had same problem on my Xsara 1.4 and dad's 206 1.4. Citroen have produced a new coil. A picture of the new coil is available on http://www.bencowell.co.uk/coil.htm .
The older coil was a more square shape at the ends. It seems to have massively improved the engine reliability after changing. I have no idea how much these new coils cost, nor if you can get them elsewhere that Citroen or Peugeot. Compare the prices at both garages.
Hope this helps

Hi Ben,
Thanx so much for that... I'm gonna ask the Citroen garage if they can fit one.... it's worth a try!

If you have even a tiny bit of confidence with a 10mm spanner you can do it yourself. Check with Andyspares if they sell the correct coil. I have no idea how much they are at Citroen.
