Xsara turned itself off

Post by ralph »

Hello all, my Xsara disgraced itself on the motorway yesterday - and turned itself off. The engine died and the speedo, temp guage etc all fell to zero, is if I'd turned it off at the ignition.
After coasting to the hard shoulder, it restarted no problem.
I've done 60 miles since, and it's not done it again. I'm sure I didn't knock the key with my knee, and the weather conditions weren't bad when it happened.

I've checked all the main earths under the bonnet and the battery connections - all fine.
What else should I check? I do 80miles on the M62 every day, so I don't want it happening when I'm in the fast lane.

Thanks

Looks like the ignition switch may be on the way out.
Turning the key fixed it for then.

In line with CloggZ -

Investigate the main power feeds from battery - to fusebox - to ignition key. May be either an earth or +12V failing.
Must be something significant like a cracked battery clamp, a loose power distributor connector or such ...
