What model?

Does it say "auto" on the control stalk?

it's from a 1996 Activa, it doesn't say auto on the stalk or anything. Had the same problem on my 405 but my brother wrote it off before i had a chance to fix it!

In the intermittent position only the wiper timer relay (should ...) come to work. Check the timer relay is secure in its socket.

where abouts on the Xantia is the relay located?
I know it was in the main fuse box on the old 405, is it the same on the Xantia?

David.

Have a look in the main fusebox. The timer relay would have an odd socket base pin configuration - with a smaller pin in one corner. Very different from blinkers or working relays.
If you find 2 such relays - the other one is for sure the rear wiper timer. You may try a swap then.

On my 97, it appears the relay is in the small fuse box above the driver's right knee. Looks like there is only 1 in there, and it's grey. Note that an Activa should have the variable interval wipers (turn the ring on the stalk) - it's not just that you've got it set to the longest interval (ring turned to front of car), and getting impatient before it wipes? Hmm, maybe not - I think it wipes as soon as you switch on.

was out today, the thing works when the wipers are on the longest time delay, but not at all when they are on the shortest time.

This still point towards the relays?
