Which Xantia??????????

Post by fridgedoc »

Hi ALL

I have just purchased a Xantia........ Crazy or what!!!!!!!!

It's a French registered 1994 LHD, was told by the guy selling it "it was 1997" (so feel a bit P****D OFF) did not understand the French log book, maybe he did not understand it either, he was English and had been living in France, Told me it did not have a alarm only central locking using key in lock, by looking through the forum it sounded like the plip was not working, checked batteries NIL VOLTS, fitted new batt's still not working, checked with digital camera plip not working, took it apart and found loose joints on LED, soldered joints, retested on camera, OK!!!!!
Tried on car............. Yippeee................car now alarmed.

So if your plip is not working, check the joints on the LED, even if the joints LOOK ok re-solder them, be careful though as they are very close to one another don't short them out !!!!!

Next ... Not a lot of air-flow through vents guessed it may have been the pollen filter but did not know where it was but thanks to this forum found out where it was. took it out .... I think Churchill was Prime Minister the last time it saw day-light, gave it a wash refitted all OK now, will get a new one asap.

I don't know but I'm sure someone can answer my question......

Which Xantia have I got?

The car has Xantia and 1.9 TD on it and that's it, NO other letters or numbers, it's a hatchback has A/C, front windows are electric and it's BLUE

Is there somewhere on the car, hidden away that has its identity?

And can I get a Hand Book, once I know which model it is?

Thanks to ALL for the info I've found up to now, I know a fair bit re A/C (NOT a Citroen specialist) so please just ask and I will try and help.

Bonne Chance

With all those goodies, sounds like a VSX, but I cant guarantee that the French classification is the same as ours!

Well done with the plip, you need very good eyesight, a steady hand and to be reasonably good at soldering, to do that job. I have repaired them but have not allways have been successful, and I'm a TV engineer! Getting on a bit though and my sight isn't as good as it was.

You seem to be finding your way round it OK. Keep it up.

Has it got Hydractive 2 suspension ? If so its a VSX or Exclusive, if it's got leather seats and/or wood paneling as well it may be an Exclusive.

If it doesn't have either, its probably an SX...

Edit: hang on a sec, you say the FRONT windows are electric ? But not the back ones ? All the Xantia's I've seen have all 4 windows electric.... so it can't be an SX. Perhaps its an LX ? (They never imported any LX's into New Zealand so I havn't seen one...)

Simon

I was going to go for LX, but then a pollen filter was mentioned, so I presumed SX. I doubt VSX as these have electric windows in the back, but then I think SX do as well. Hmm. Anyway, the handbook is generic, and just has asterisks all over it saying "Dependant on equipment fitted" so it doesn't really matter what the spec is - just take it as you find it!

Yep,

All SX's I've seen in NZ have electric rear windows, in fact all Xantia's in NZ have them as we don't get the LX here...

Maybe its an LX that got fitted with optional extra aircon ?

Just killing time...I get the keys to my new apartment later on today :)

I would certainly agree and say its not a VSX regarding the rear windows.
I have an SX and it has all electric windows.
It most probably is an LX!!!

However I assume their could be differences since its a LHD and wasnt from the UK, I would guess at LX with A/C fitted extra!

I have recently aquired a late '95 Dimension II. (not on the road yet) and this has electric windows at the front only - no air con though.

Adding to the confusion.

Mine is an SX with ‘poverty pack’: front electric windows only, velvet fabric, and no rear centre armrest.

So we have established that the only thing that is certain about model designations and specs is that nothing is certain ?

By the way, blue is best  (mine is metalic blue 8) ) Just enjoy your car, don't worry too much about what it is...

My Xantia?????????????

Post by fridgedoc »

Hi All

Thanks for all your replies, yes I should just drive it .......but I would like to know what it is........

I has cloth seats & central arm rest in the back, back seat slits 60/40, interior lights on the central columns and I think a map? reading light over the passenger seat.

Apart from being really busy It's been chucking it down so really have not had a lot of time to look it over, if the weather is better tomorrow I will give it a good look over and report back with my finding.

The problem with trying to work out the model designation on a LHD car is that each market/country has its own specification. So whilst in the UK SX Xantia's have always had electric rear windows and front fog lights, in other markets the spec will be different.

Another example is the availablity of options, you could not order a new Saxo with factory fitted aircon in the UK yet poverty spec versions in Greece had it.
