OK as my 405 has just passed its MOT with minimal work required I think it is time to sort out a few niggling little things, Starting with the stereo remote.
Something in the switch broke not long after I got the car (previous owner was a bit heavy handed I think) and now the stalk hangs limp, and doesn't change anything on the radio.
How can I get at and change this for a working stalk?
Cheers

Hi
Whatever you do dont remove the single screw at the bottom of the lower trim in the footwell, The reasons being they are a sod to line up & get back in.
Just undo the 4 x screws under the steering column trim, Unclip the top thin strip in front of the clocks using your fingers in the middle, Then lift the larger top steering column trim clear.
Undo the 2 x screws holding the radio stalk & then follow the white lead to the back of the radio & unplug it, Cut any cable ties holding the wires.
Sling broken stalk in the bin & replace it with one from the scrapyard, Make sure you keep the wires out the way of moving parts.
Stick it all back together, Take your time with the screws, They are a swine to line up again & get the thread started.
405, early 306 & also check out the Citroen family, Loads of PSA cars had this same stalk.
How old is this 405? Does it have a drivers airbag?

Hi
Dont worry about the airbag, It was on the pre airbag cars you would have found a certain control unit when the trim panel is removed
Easy job, The hard part is threading the white lead that connects the stalk to the back of the radio
Most PSA cars have had this stalk fitted, you should find one easily in your local scrapyard

Hi,
I had the same problem with my 306 so bought a replacement stalk,
However when I removed the steering column trim I found that the plastic lugs that the screws for the stalk go into were broken, hence the whole stalk was moving.
Might be worth checking before going and getting a replacement stalk.
