RH Driveshaft?

Post by RichardW »

Trying to remove the RH D/S from a 306 HDi - got the bolts loosened but they won't turn or go back through the housing. Got about 1/4" of play in the shaft through the housing but then it just goes solid. Any clues how to proceed?

The bolts don't turn the moment they are loose, the nuts need to be almost removed so the bolt heads move far enough back to disengage from their slots, then they will turn.

Yeah, but I can't move the bolts at all - no turn or in/out movement. Current plan is just to keep welting the bush untill they move back!

Seems that exactly this has been done before - and bent the bolts severely. Now they will lock half way pushed in.
You will need a new aux bearing once you start using a hammer to get it out the housing.

I'd certainly first try winding up the nuts again to see if the bolts loosen up.
Its only a matter of some 15min's bodging filing up 2 new suitable bolts, if you get stuck with the problem over the weekend.

Hmm, doesn't sound that good.. We got a bit more movement, and then I tightened the bolts up, which has reduced the movement but there is still a bit left. It does look like the bolts are fouling in the housing, but I can't think of any way of getting them out. I seem to remember the housing is dowelled into the back of the engine, so can't be easily removed?

Got it out :P . Appliance of a bit of science rather than just brute force, and it came out quite easily. Bolts are bent as a nine bob note.... Hope the bearing is OK....!
