Bouncy Rev Counter

Post by fatbugger »

Hi All
Hope someone can help. Problem with the wifes car 1999 Xsara 1.9d.
Rev counter seems to have developed a life of it's own. At tick over registers zero rpm while driving seems to fluctuate all over the place with no relation to the revs the car is doing.
Is there a sensor or has the rev counter clock got a fault?

Hope someone can help

If its the usual XUD set up, there is a flywheel TDC sensor at the top of the gearbox and a connector for it on the end of the cylinder head, neither of which are all that easy to get at. The problem is more likely to be with the connector having dirty contacts.
