Post by WELSHVIKING »

Carrying on from yesterday, now used the header tank method on my cooling system of my 1996 xantia 1.9 td, slightly better warm air from the heaters but still not hot, i am being stupid but i can only see 1 bleed nozzle on the top of the engine where the pipes meet ( looks like a dust cap ) i have bleed that but cannot see anymore nozzles on the thermostat or anywhere else.....also i have noticed the heater is warmer from the face vents then from the windscreen or feet vents which are luke warm at the best...i am now getting desparate as i am certain i have got air in the system but can only fine 1 bleed nozzle....HELP !!!!!!...Colin

The best way to bleed the heater is to disconnect the top heater hose and keep filling the header tank until water without air bubbles comes from both ends.

Thanks for the reply Peter, do you mean the top hose which goes to the radiator, just disconnect that and refil the sytem, until bubbles come out the hose and the radiator

There is another bleed, it looks like the one you have found. It is on the bulkhead where the 2 heater hoses are. Look carefully as it is easily missed.

Thanks for the reply, trust citroen to hide a bleed nozzle, found the one on the bulkhead, it was not easy and was full of air, bleed it until got just fluid out without bubbles, will now take it for a short run to see how it reacts...thanks for all your help, and thanks citroen for playing silly buggers !!!!!!!!!!!!1

Also check that both heater hoses get equally hot.
That indicates that there's plenty of hot water flowing through the heater.
If it's still cold inside, then the problem is in the vent controls or flaps.
If the car has air conditioning, the pollen filter can be black and restricting the flow of warm air from the heater.

The top hose to the heater, where it goes through the bulkhead, but sounds as though you have it sorted now.

Hi, Seems a lot better since i bleed the nozzle on the bulkhead ( 3 times ), car is running at about 80-85 degrees and the cooling fans are coming on as required. I will give the car a run tomorrow to see how it is. Regarding the pollen filter i changed it for a new one last weekend when i did a service so that will be fine....thanks for everyones help, i will let you know the results tomorrow after a drive.Colin
