Whistle from Xantia?

Post by Quackers »

I thought i would do citrobics on my Activa today, so i popped it into high, but when i dropped it onto low a massive load whistle came from the LHM tank, is this air in the system escaping? I did notice that when i first started the car and pressed the breaks i heard lots of what i think was air rummbling through the pipes (or LHM) to the rear, very loud rumble...

was there just the 1 whistle or does it still do it????

if uit was air in the LHM it would have escaped now after the first whistle and so one would not expect it to do it again...........

Yeah only did it the first time, but i'm worried because i only did citrobics 4 days ago, and it did the same then. The car does not seem to be losing LHM so how does air get in?

i dont have a xantia so am not massivly experienced with them but.................

if air is getting into the system there must be a leak on the "suck" side of the pump ( if the leak was on the "push" or high pressure side it wouldnt suck air in it would squirt LHM everywhere.....

so you need to check the pipes running from the LHM reservoir to the hydraulic pump. Also, ive heard that the pumps can let air in too through a damaged seal but start with looking for perrished or loose pipes on the suction side going into the pump as this is cheap and easy to do..

im sure sombody else with a xantia will have some other ideas..

are we correct assuming becuase its and activa its a petrol??

cheers

alastair.

Must point out that doing the gym, the return pressure is rather high. Fluid under high pressure moving rapidly in small diameter pipes makes quite a noise. Even a whistling at times.

You have noticed it now - because during daily use you never expose your Xantia to such treatment.

Under certain circumstances your own body can in fact produce similar symptoms - for similar reasons

Nice one Anders, not sure how many appreciated the theory of expansion?
Cheers!

Isn't it nitrogen from a leaking sphere escaping into the LHM ?
