Knocking Noise On My ZX

I've got an awful knocking noise coming from the front of my 1993 ZX Diesel. It happens when I hit cats eyes etc. and it's a pain in the neck when I have to drive down a dirt track to work every day.
The car has only had an MoT for a week! The knocking noise was present before the MoT and I even told the tester that something was knocking. He couldn't find anything wrong with the car. I'm wondering now whether it could be an engine mounting? Although the knocking isn't apparent when I start or stop the engine or when I rev. The knocking noise doesn't seem to be affecting the car's handling either.
My car hasn't got power steering, and yes, I have checked the wheel bolts.
Can anyone help me please?

the usual knocking is antiroll bar links or lower swivel joints,they cant allways find play at these points on the MOT
